About Me
The way children learn is very important. The reason I wake up everyday and go to work is to help children flourish and to give them those beginning tools to be successful. I teach preschool and enjoy doing so. I love those little moments when I assist children in learning numbers, letters, shapes and colors. Once they get those skills down I like to teach them these basic words in Spanish. I love the times when the light bulb goes off and they realize they just mastered a new concept. There are many contributors to learning for example outdoor play, cognitive development and how important it is for the child to have parent and family involvement. Everyone is different and for me I am a hands on learner, I need to see and touch in order to learn. Everyday I provide toys and learning materials at the children’s eye level and easily accessible so the children can learn and explore. Not only is all this important, but children also need to have physical and outdoor time. Children can not be expected to be cooped up in the classroom all day. They need fresh air and they need to run and get exercise otherwise they will get fidgety and they will not comprehend the material. My name is Ashlie Bernal and I am a graduate from San Jose State University 2012. Go Spartans!!! I graduated with a Bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Child and Adolescent Development. I always wanted to be a reporter, but I thought I needed a back up. I knew I loved kids, always have anywhere I go the babies flock to me and people are always having children, so with a few ECE classes under my belt I thought if I had to I could teach preschool. So who am I? I am Ashlie, I am about to be 30. I am a student, I am a teacher, I am preschool teacher, I am a catechism teacher and I love to be in school. So much so I have had a friend ask me, “So when will you been done with school?” I was not able to answer his question because I am not sure when. I love to be in the classroom, which is why I teach preschool and why I plan to teach ECE classes in the near future. I currently just came on board at the Child Abuse Prevention Council of San Joaquin County on March 7 of this year as a teacher. At CAPC I work at Building Future Academy in Stockton. We are a small site, but I love my kids and we are enrolling seven more kiddos to start at the beginning of August. Before CAPC I was a teacher at Hansel and Gretel in Manteca. They are a privately owned preschool but I learned a lot fresh out of college. I was employed there for three and a half years, but sure did fall in love with all my kids and I still go visit them once and while. My interest include going to the movies, wine tasting, going to the beach, taking long drives (not doing the driving), swimming. My hobbies include going to Zumba class. I try to go five days a week, but that does not always happen. I go because I love to dance that is one of my passions, but my boyfriend of four and nine months does not like to dance, plus I go to distress. When I was younger I did Mexican Dancing. I like to volunteer at church either teaching Catechism at my church or Bible study at my boyfriend’s church anything including children I find rewarding. I love to cook and bake for my family, which brings me to family. I am the oldest of three girls; my sisters are Anastasia and Alexa. Yes all A’s or Triple A as we are sometimes referred as. I am blessed to say my paternal grandfather just turned 101 this past April and my maternal grandmother and grandfather live really close to me. I am Mexican so of course I have a big family, overwhelming and loud for my boyfriend sometimes who is an only child. My close and immediate family comes out to 12 people so its naturally going to be a little loud because of our size, but I would not change or replace them I love them all. I do not have any children, nor am I married, but I am hoping in the near future that changes. |
